Why We're Cynical

One of the most frequently asked questions we've had since this site was put up is "Why are you so cynical?"
Well, in our continuing effort to answer your questions before you ask them, we've posted this explanation. We hope you enjoy it--maybe you'll even learn something.
Cynicism generally occurs when several things happen in a typically corrupt and disturbing manner for an extended period of time, with no real logical reason. With that in mind, let's examine some facts about Minneapolis South High School:
- Students are told that they are to act like adults, yet they have to get a pass to take a piss.
- The school offers up IDs as a way to know people better. Yeah, you'll really
bother to try and remember someone's name if you know that it'll be on a card around their neck if you forget.
- Administrators tell us how important it is that students stay off drugs and succeed in their jobs, yet they cut athletics
programs that keep kids safe, and make them statistically more likely to succeed.
- School officials crow about how students should eat healthier diets, then serve them donuts for their school breakfasts.
- Administrators struggle with the problem of low student achievement and crappy teacher lesson plans,
but at the same time, they waste teacher's time by forcing them to attend numerous "staff development" meetings. What are they supposed to develop, anyway? Annoyance?
- The Minneapolis Public Schools have advertised that you should Expect Great Things. Not that you'll get great things, just expect them. And it might help if you
lowered your expectations.
- And of course, we learned firsthand that when you report the truth about them,
they deny you access to news stories and interviews. And to top it off, they deny you a diploma.
Then, just before they kick you out, they ask why you are so cynical.
Given these circumstances, how could one not become cynical?
At times like this when the dumbest people you know have the most power, it's time for a change.
The only thing we aren't cynical about is that this site is a better way to
advocate for positive change than talking to the morons at the school district.
Alright. That's our piece. We hope to hear your thoughts and ideas.--Dr. Vinny, South High Sucks.com Founder & Publisher
