City Pages article on SouthHighSucks.com Gets Local, National Attention
It's unlikely the administration is happy about this
On Wednesday, April 3, 2002, City Pages printed an article about the antics the South High administration played when this website first went live in March 2002. This story made it to national media news sites, most notably the Wall Street Journal opinion page (under the headline "Zero-Tolerance Watch" ). People from all over the country (and the world) emailed us during that time to offer their support. We'd like to take this opportunity to thank our supporters, as well as express our gratitude to the City Pages and it's editor at the time, Tom Finkel, for letting the world know about the oppression at Minneapolis South High School.
Founder's Note: Below is our original article reporting the suspensions, posted less than a day after we were kicked out the door of South High.
Four Students Suspended For Web Poll
Administrators have interesting idea of what constitutes a death threat
By Dr. Vinny
March 20, 2002--In a startling turn of events, four students who were involved in the
production of this website were suspended on March 19, 2002 due to their
supposedly threatening an Assistant Principal's life because of the
wording of a
poll. In an exclusive interview with Vinny's Education Coalition, the
four students, some of whom prefer not to be named, agreed that, "this
is bullshit".
While the school district is talking to their General Counsel, the
accused parties are still mulling their options. According to one, "This
is a free speech issue. I believe that because the Administration
doesn't appreciate criticism, they got their brain trust to come up with
this, and I think it's ridiculous. I don't want anybody dead; I just
wish they'd pursue other career options."
Below is the original poll we posted on March 20, 2002 in response to the
South High administration suspending us.
