Metro Transit Strike Over, Buses Returned Mon, April 19, 2004
The ATU 1005 finally approved a contract (which includes a cute little signing bonus), and all Metro Transit service will be fully operational beginning at 3AM Monday, April 19, 2004. Of course, the contract expires at the end of July 2005, so those ultra-liberal activists may decide to play these kinds of games with the hard-working taxpayers at that time. Let's hope Gov. Pawlenty does something to stop this from ever happening again!
Metro Transit Union Board Recommends Approval of Contract
Contract May Be Rejected As Some Super-Seditious Drivers Are More Leftist Than The Rats In Dirty Nightshirts!
STRIKE UPDATE WITH MR. T BAGGER-- The management of the transit union has told the 2,200 striking Metro Transit workers to approve the contract that negotiators reached on April 13. The offer will pass if just one person over 50% of the drivers vote to approve the contract. The contract offers PT drivers a $600 signing bonus, while FT drivers get $1,100. Additionally, it calls for a wage freeze until August, when there will be a 1% increase, and next year, there will be an additional 0.5% increase. As for benefits, current workers retain extremely generous retirement coverage, while workers hired in the future would not be offered this benefit. Health coverage would have lower premiums but higher deductibles. Overall, the transit workers are going to continue to be paid in excess of similar workers in the private sector. But, several whining SOB's interviewed by local TV stations, including FOX 9 and 5 Eyewitness News say that they think the contract is "unfair." They're right, of course--it's unfair to the taxpayers and bus riders who are subsidizing their lavish lifestyle. But this type of guy thinks that they ought to be handed even more cash on a silver platter. In any event, one guy on TV said that while he's "protesting" this by voting against the contract, he thinks it will pass anyway. Let's hope one of two things happens.
- The drivers pass the contract and get their butt behind the wheel so that hard-working people can get to work, or
- The union rejects the offer, allowing the governor to finally get rough with the union and whip their butts in line with the private sector
Under no circumstances can we allow them to reject the contract and then allow those bums to bilk us for even more money.
Governor Cuts Deal With Greedy Bus Union
STRIKE UPDATE WITH MR. T BAGGER-- MN Governor Tim Pawlenty evidently was able to cut a deal with the Twin Cities bus union in an all-night negotiating session on April 13, 2004. The details of the agreement have not been released, which is consistent with the cloak-and-dagger meetings themselves, which took place at an "undisclosed location." We'll see by Friday if the deal passes through the union and management boards. If it does, buses will be back on Monday, April 19, 2004. Remember to tell your driver to dump the union and the rats in dirty nightshirts.

City Pages Runs Pro-Union Bus Strike Issue
Well, I got my copy of City Pages and I read all the bus strike articles, and I don't think my mind was changed one bit. Sure, the drivers aren't rich, but explain to me WHY the bus drivers ought to be paid more than people who do the same job in the PRIVATE SECTOR? And then there was that guy--Farah Gelle--who had what was it...a family of six? And how does he think he's gonna pay for that on an unskilled job? I would say that is an example of poor family planning. I don't hate the guy, but maybe he shouldn't try to support so many people...that's not how things are done anymore. Read the CP article on Farah here. Anyhow, I do support a higher minimum wage. At least that would help everybody and not just union elites.
Union, Met Council & Governor Have Secret Bargaining Session
In a cloak and dagger affair, Peter Bell, Ron Lloyd, and Tim Pawlenty apparently spent Wednesday evening (April 7, 2004), discussing ways to settle the bus strike--of course there was no settlement, but they have agreed to have another meeting--on Monday. I love the way they are trying to dodge the media--what an open system! Also, it's nice that when they claim to have made progress that they put off the next meeting so long. Bus riders need the buses NOW, and they don't care too much if it's a holiday weekend or not. No matter. I bet that until we send the union brass to jail for sedition, they'll never give up on their unreasonable demands that the governor will never agree to.
Seditious Union Dirtbags Want Biased Democrat to be "Impartial Negotiator"
The ATU 1005 wants Roger Moe, former DFL gubernatorial candidate and State Senator to be an "impartial" negotiator in their strike settlement talks. What a laugh! Like a Democrat who got tons of union campaign contributions will do anything other than carry the union's water! Stop lying to the public, ATU 1005!
Transit Union Loses Benefits
The drivers lost their benefits on April 1--no fooling. According to the Pioneer Press story, despite the fact that this strike is about benefits, the union is willing to go without any benefits for the rest of the strike--which could last until Thanksgiving, according to some observers. What a bunch of dumbasses! These twits must think no insurance is better than some insurance, so why are they keeping people from getting to work? I hope those Marxists in the union leadership burn in hell for this shit. They know thay aren't gonna win, so for an undetermined amount of time they are going to keep their members and the riding public from putting food on the table. Talk about a dirtbag! Those union leaders ought to be rounded up and arrested for sedition. I want to see them on the next non-stop flight to Guantanamo Bay.
