We're Coming Back!
AFTER OVER A YEAR IN EXILE, South High Sucks.com will be reinstated in its entirety by Labor Day 2008. All of our archived files have now been posted, but even so, some of the links outside of this page may be out of date. We have heard your voice and are pleased to be able to bring this site back. We are looking at either restoring this design or redoing it completely. We understand that some people will not be happy to see this site return; but just so you know, the decision to bring this page back was not made lightly. We will further explain the compelling reason why this site is returning later this summer. If youre interested in helping please email us at southhighsucks AT yahoo.com. Thank you.
Election Day, Nov 7, 2006
I just left the polls today, and as I left, I remembered two things: the first time I ever voted, and the only "Kids' Vote" fake election at school where I actually remember the results.
I can't forget the first day I ever voted, and not because it was necessarily a thrilling experience. You see, I had got angry about some city policies prior to my 18th birthday, and the first election I could legally vote in was the city primary. Now, most 18-year-olds don't give a rat's ass about a city primary, but I did--particularly because I wanted to make sure that the Terrorist Enemy didn't lower voter turnout. So, I voted for a bunch of long-shots, none of whom won, and went home...and watched wall-to-wall news. You see, I first voted on September 11, 2001.
On November 3, 1998, during first year at South High School, we were forced to vote in a "practice" election for students who were not yet 18, because this would supposedly increase the likelihood that we'd get out to vote when we were legally eligible in a few years. So, we all made a joke of it and "voted" for Jesse Ventura for governor. He won the fake election in a landslide. We laughed and thought how funny it'd be if he won for real. That night, he did. It turned out to be both funny and not funny, but at least he had a personality.
Why the hell am I telling these stupid stories? I'm not entirely sure, but I do know that if you ever want to have your own corny Election Day stories to tell, you'd better make voting a habit. Now get your rear end to the polls.--Dr. Vinny, Founder & Publisher

Keith Ellison Wins 5th District DFL Primary
Will he cruise on to win the General Election or will his liabilities lose the Democrats a "safe" seat?
I don't know about you, but I don't think that Ellison is going to have as much of a cakewalk as some people say. Sure, there are lots of DFLers in his district, but I think that his unpaid parking tickets and connections to Islam will dissuade suburban voters, and women may have issues with his pending domestic violence issues. Fair or not, if you want to win, you need to have a clean record, and allegiance with the dominant religion, Christianity, helps.

MPLS School Board Coverage
Only 6 Candidates File for 4 Seats
It's late in the summer and it's time to get back to business....right now there's about two months before the 2006 School Board Election, which will likely decide whether or not the Minneapolis Schools shut down entirely (I'm only half kidding about that). Unfortunately, only six candidates filed for office, so unless a write-in candidate is able to mount a formidable campaign, we don't have too many choices--although it's not too surprising, because who'd want the job? I had considered running, but I frankly don't want to sit through those meetings. In any event, only 2 of the four candidates are likely to be denied a board seat--so this election may be more about who you don't want to see on the board than who you do want there. Anyway, we're working on some candidate profiles and the like, and we'll be sending out a new set of email newsletters, so if you want independent coverage of the school board race, check back here every week or two and subscribe to our newsletter by becoming a member of the ANGRY TAXPAYER'S CLUB using the form below.
New Minneapolis Downtown Library is Ugly
New Futuristic Design Creates Anxiety About the Rest of Our Lives
I guess I'm being somewhat sarcastic here, but the new downtown library is ugly, and a waste of money in my view and if this is how buildings are going to look in the future, I want to move to a historic district. I'll have some pics posted of the library soon. Also, more modifications of the site are in the works, so drop on by more often. And have a "great day."
Read Our Unique Take on the recent Anti-War Protest

You probably heard about the November 2 YAWR protest against military recruitment in high schools. The students who participated in the protest object to the current federal law, which requires schools receiving federal funds to allow military recruiters on campus. The law also gives them access to the addresses and phone numbers of students unless their parents write to the school to opt out of receiving military solicitations. Whether you agree or disagree with that law, I want to explain to you why politicians, and not the military itself, are responsible for the current situation. After all, it's not fair to blame the armed forces for doing their job--following the orders that they're given.Click here to read the full editorial, and then send us your comments or post them in the message board!
St. Paul Schools Plan to Stop Buying Books
Did You Know that K-6 Students are Apparently Being Taught Rap "Music" in School?
Comment on this in our Message Board!
Apparently balancing budgets is getting more and more "difficult" for school districts across the state (especially since they refuse to fire administrators, get rid of the teacher unions and institute merit pay!). The St. Paul schools have decided to stop buying most types of textbooks for the 2005-06 school year. Now students are going to be left with old textbooks in some industrial classes, meaning they won't be ready to join the workforce upon completion of the classes--which makes the classes useless. At the same time, a local newspaper wasted ink on a whining music teacher who says she needs new textbooks to help introduce her K-6 students to the world of rap music. Click here to find out about the textbook-buying ban AND how rap music is being taught to K-6 students!

On May 26, the "FOX 9 INVESTIGATORS" did a story (Click here to read the transcript of the FOX9 story) on wasted books at the Minneapolis Public Library wherein they visited the East Lake Community Library, which is currently undergoing renovation, where they apparently found several hardcover biographies in the dumpster. They also mentioned and showed our pictures of books in the Northeast Library dumpster. Apparently, despite our story on this topic, including photos exposing their wasteful ways, the Minneapolis Public Library leadership decided to keep throwing books in the trash. Wonderful people, aren't they? CLICK HERE TO READ OUR ORIGINAL STORY ON WASTED BOOKS AND SEE OUR PHOTOS OF WHAT'S REALLY GOING ON AT THE MINNEAPOLIS PUBLIC LIBRARY!
